Evaluation
is one of the pillars of teaching learning process. It is practically carried
out all along the academic year at different levels. Only the extent of
assessment and aimed objectives vary.
The educator
must administer different types of evaluation techniques on the educand to make
the teaching learning experience effective. For this, awareness of the types of
the evaluation is imperative.
Types of Evaluation:
Formative Evaluation:
·
This
is the type of assessment done at the beginning of the instruction.
·
It
is carried out to assess the understanding of the learner on small units
of the subject.
·
The
questions are in the form of essays, short, and objective types and the techniques
of evaluation are technically known as unit tests, quarterly, half-yearly exams
etc.
Summative Evaluation:
·
This
evaluation is carried out at the end of the evaluation.
·
It
is done to assess the overall performance of the learner based on the
understanding of the instructions on a macro level.
·
The
questions are asked in the form of essay, short and very short answer questions
covering the entire syllabus of a subject.
·
Evaluation
of the psychomotor domain of learning involving skills is carried out by
conducting practical examinations.
Diagnostic Evaluation:
·
It
is carried out all along the instruction sessions during an academic year.
·
It
is done to assess the understanding of the instruction at a micro level.
·
The
teacher conducts diagnostic evaluation by asking questions on the instructions
delivered in the same class or the previous class.
·
The
questions can be oral in nature and framed from the recently taught topics.
Prognostic Evaluation:
·
It
is a prediction of the extent to which a student would perform in the near
future using the present state of learning.
·
An
example of this type of evaluation is entrance examinations.
