The three
pillars of learning are framing the instructional objectives, design and
delivery of the instruction and evaluation of the learning experience.
Evaluation is technically the sum of measurement and value judgement.
Thus, the
process of evaluation involves its quantitative and qualitative aspects
respectively. The role of evaluation in education can be better understood by
knowing about its different stake holders.
Role of Evaluation in Education:
For the Learner:
·
The
result of the assessment of the learning experiences is of utmost importance to
the learner.
·
It
provides an idea on the extent to which the learner could understand the
instruction provided to him/her all along the year.
·
It
also provides the eligibility to the student to pursue higher learning.
For the Teacher:
·
The
result of the students in examinations provides an idea to the extent to which
the teacher succeeded in reaching the set instructional objectives at the
beginning of the academic year.
·
This
information also provides an insight on the effectiveness of the teaching style
and aids used in the teaching process.
·
Accordingly,
necessary changes can be made in the instructional strategies for the students
of the next academic year.
For the Parents:
·
The
performance of the ward at school is known to the parents by knowing about the
assessment result at the end of an academic year.
·
The
role of parents in the advancement of child academically is also revealed by
these results.
·
The
role of parents in the learning of their child is about 66 percent.
·
The
roles of teachers and the student himself or herself in the learning are about
33 percent each.
·
This
data stresses on the importance of heredity and environment at home on learning
of the child and related psychology to evaluation.
For the Head Master:
·
Information
on the performance of different classes plays a vital role in the assessment of
the faculty by the headmaster.
·
Based
on the results of the students in a particular subject, its teacher is either
rewarded or guided by the headmaster.
·
The
results also provide an insight to the headmaster on the effectiveness or lack
of infrastructure in the school organization.
For the School Management:
·
The
school management is a democratic body which plans, organizes and executes the
developmental activities and maintenance of the organization as a whole.
·
Depending
on the suggestions made by the headmaster on the requirements and promotion of
the organization, the management allocates funds for the same.
For the Education Policy Makers:
·
Depending
on the results of the schools in a particular locality, the educational policy
makers take the necessary steps to either improve the existing conditions or
maintain the optimum state of affairs.
·
The
results also provide an idea on the extent to which the long term goals of
education are met in a locality.
Conclusion:In this way, different stakeholders
have different expectations of the results of evaluation, assessed and
announced at the end of an academic year.
